Quote of the Day

It is not a true Gospel that gives us the impression that the Christian life is easy, and that there are no problems to be faced. That is not the New Testament teaching. The New Testament is most alarming at first, indeed terrifying, as it shows us the problems by which we are confronted. But follow it-go on! It does not stop halfway, it goes on to this addition, this second half; and here it shows us the way in which, though that is the truth concerning the battle, we can be enabled to wage it, and not only to wage it, but to triumph in it. It shows us that we are meant to be “more than conquerors.”

Faith and Works

James talks about living faith and dead faith James 1:21-26 James uses Abraham as an example. God told Abraham to sacrifice Isaac, yet Abraham knew that God had given promises regarding Isaac.. and since Abraham knew that God was not a liar, his faith was steadfast in God in believing that if he sacrificed Isaac God is surely still going to be faithful to his word. Because of Abrahams faith in God (faith), he obeyed God and went to sacrifice Isaac (works). This was faith and works working together. Faith and works is even at work even at the point of Salvation. Firstly you believe in God (faith), secondly you repent of your sins (works), and believe that God is just and will forgive sin just as he said he would and once you receive that forgiveness, you are saved. Salvation comes from putting that faith into action. (faith and works working together) However, there were no works which...

Jesus is Offensive

Now theres an interesting fact. Jesus really is offensive, but offensive towards what? One of the first times we see anyone being offended by Jesus was John the Baptist (we could say Herod, but will move past him). We know from scripture that John the Baptist didn’t live in a nice cosy 5 bedroomed house with a big 40″ widescreen TV eating kentucky and pizzas (:))…infact he wore clothes made of camel’s hair with a belt around his waste, lived in the wilderness and ate locusts and wild honey Matt 3:4. (ugh). He was the forerunner telling people to repent and be baptised as well as telling people that someone was coming who was greater than he. So we know that Jesus was baptised by John, and John told his disciples to follow Jesus because John must decrease while Jesus increases John 3:30. Once this happened, John gets arrested because he kept picking on Herod...

Assurance of Salvation

Truth gets attacked from every side, whether it be about who Jesus is, what He did on the cross, the Bible, authority of scripture or even whether there is such a thing as certainty of truth itself. You don’t have to look very far to find those who will act as instruments when it comes to attacking truth, infact, you don’t have to look at all, they will probably find you! That is exactly what happened recently with a guy who was 100% convinced that there was no such thing as assurance of salvation since scripture tell us that we have to endure in order to be saved. If you don’t endure, you don’t receive salvation. What I find interesting is that someone can come along and pluck out a few scriptures to ‘prove’ one doctrine yet ignore the rest of what scripture says in relation to a particular topic. So, for example, Jesus said that whoever believes in...

Reconciled to God

John 4:16 – Jesus said to him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me. It’s surprising how many Christians walk around today not knowing who they are in Christ or recognising what Jesus accomplished on the cross. Even before Jesus died on the cross, Abraham’s faith was credited to him as righteousness. But how could Abraham be righteous in Gods eyes without the blood of Christ? Abraham was a sinner, so how could he be righteous and blameless before God? It was because of Grace through faith. Abraham was before the cross, we are now after the cross, yet it is through the cross that we are made righteous together. So what happened on the cross, and how does that affect us when we come to knowledge of God and believe that Jesus is our saviour? Before the cross, God dwelled in temples in the Holy of Holies. The only one who was...
