Prophesy Being Fulfilled in Britain?

If someone asked me about words of prophesy that had been spoken over our nation (Great Britain), two people would come to mind, one would be Smith Wigglesworth and another would be Jean Darnall. I have heard other people speaking similar prophesies but for me, these are the two that I believe we are beginning to see the fulfillment of.

Smith Wigglesworth Prophesy

[stextbox id="info"]

"During the next few decades there will be two distinct moves of the Holy Spirit across the church in Great Britain. The first move will affect every church that is open to receive it, and will be characterised by a restoration of the baptism and gifts of the Holy Spirit.

"The second move of the Holy Spirit will result in people leaving historic churches and planting new churches.

"In the duration of each of these moves, the people who are involved will say, 'This is a great revival.' But the Lord says, 'No, neither is this the great revival but both are steps towards it.'

"When the new church phase is on the wane, there will be evidence in the churches of something that has not been seen before: a coming together of those with an emphasis on the word and those with an emphasis on the Spirit. When the word and the Spirit come together, there will be the biggest move of the Holy Spirit that the nation, and indeed, the world has ever seen. It will mark the beginning of a revival that will eclipse anything that has been witnessed within these shores, even the Wesleyan and Welsh revivals of former years. The outpouring of God’s Spirit will flow over from the United Kingdom to mainland Europe, and from there, will begin a missionary move to the ends of the earth."

This prophesy was spoken in 1947, the same year Smith went to be with the Lord. It was in the early 1960's when people began to see what is now known as the Charismatic movement. This does not mean that the baptism in the Holy Spirit was unknown before then, since Smith and others preached alot on the baptism in the Holy Spirit (Acts 2).

Even before the Charismatic Movement came to birth in the 1960's there were already people in the traditional churches who knew what it was to be baptised in the Holy Spirit. Some had found the Spirit in the crusades and meetings of the outstanding independent healing evangelists of the '40's and '50's, men like William Branham, Oral Roberts and T.L. Osborn. Others came into blessing through the witness of the Full Gospel Business Mens Fellowship International (FGBMFI), founded by Demos Shakarian in 1953 to promote the work of the Holy Spirit and laymen and businessmen without proselytising for any Pentecostal denomination. Through these and other such channels and ministries there was always a steady trickle of people being baptised in the Holy Spirit in the traditional churches, but none of it was organised, and few ever heard anything about it until 1960. CITED from John McKays - Movements of the Spirit. A History of the Prophetic Church. pg 468

The difference between the movement of the Holy Spirit at the time of Smiths prophetic word and the movement during the 1960's was that during the movement in the 1960's people from virtually every major Protestant denomination were being baptised in the Holy Spirit. This wasn't just a movement across Britain, since it spilled over to Britain from America around 1962. This was the first part of the prophesy being fulfilled which was given to Smith Wigglesworth 14yrs to 15yrs earlier.

The second part of Smiths prophesy was "The second move of the Holy Spirit will result in people leaving historic churches and planting new churches."

For me growing up whenever I thought of Church, I would always visualise old buildings and hard seated pews, boring hymn books and the vicar reading from a book to pray to God. That certainly wasn't an image that would attract me to go to Church.

I became a Christian in 1982 (12yrs old) yet it wasn't really until 1986 when I properly started going to Church, and it wasn't in an old building, nor was it to a traditional Church of England historical building; it was in a large house that had been converted into a Pentecostal Church - This was definitely a modern church in relation to the traditional Churches.  You wouldn't nowadays associate the Church of England with moving in the gifts of the Holy Spirit such as healings and speaking in tongues, but these gifts are evident in churches belonging to the newer Churches (as they were then in the 70's/80's) which came out of the 'renewal' movements.

Now, we are in the 21st Century, 64ish years since Smith Wigglesworth had the prophesy, and it seems we have seen the 1st and 2nd part of his prophesy fulfilled and we are now in the 3rd stage. There are many who would agree that we need a new movement of the Holy Spirit. So much has changed in our world even over the last 20-30 yrs - what was new then, is now old. We have seen massive shifts in peoples view of God as well as the growth and acceptance of other religions. We have also seen a massive growth of false preachers/teachers/prophets largely evident through our TV screens with Televangelists. There seems to be a sense of urgency to see a new movement of the Spirit where God will take control of everything (as if He isn't in control anyway).

When I read the latter part of Smith Wigglesworth prophesy where the Spirit and the Word come together, my spirit leapt, I recognised something and I was full of excitement and joy, because it really is the next stage. I heard someone say recently that there are two kinds of Christian churches, those who move in the gifts, and those who concentrate on the Word. I'm pretty sure those who move in the gifts also concentrate on the Word,  but perhaps with not so much emphasis as those who concentrate on the Word only. Can you imagine what will happen when the Spirit and the Word come together?! THE POWER OF THE GOSPEL When people know the Word and speak it through the Power of the Holy Spirit! The Sword of the Spirit comes into effect.. the Power of the Word - effective, strong and powerful truth that cuts into the deepest darkness.

You know, many Christians can look at the world around us today, and on the surface it may look like the devil is winning, yet all the time when the devil thinks he is winning, GOD IS AT WORK IN HIS PEOPLE PREPARING AND EQUIPPING THEM FOR BATTLE. God knows EXACTLY what He is doing and HE IS IN CONTROL.. He just isn't in a rush ;)

  1. I am concerned as the USA is under such judgement at this time for their unrighteousness and turning from God and His commandments that we are in great danger here. We have an unrighteous governement that is partaking of the sins of America and aiding to the division of Israel that we will suffer the same fate. The believers (I hesitate to say 'church' because God only recognises HIS church made up of individual believers and not denominations) should be interceding on behalf of Israel and of this nation and fellow believers.
Truly the word also urges us to be aware that there are those who will say 'peace, peace, where there is no peace.'
I believe as believers, there should be a concerted call for intercession and repentence before it is too late.
