When the time comes when you decide you want to get deeper into the Bible and study the word for yourself, it can seem a little daunting at first and you might wonder where to begin. So here are just a few resources you might need to help assist you in gaining a deeper understanding of the written word. These are a few of the more popular resources which are generally a ‘must have’. There are lots of other resources that people will have, but these are just to give you an idea of basic tools that people will use for bible study. [table id=1 /] There are thousands of resources available, however the above are just a few books you may wish to obtain to assist you with your bible study. As well as dictionaries, it is also useful to have different translations of the bible. This is because by reading the same verse in different translations you will get a better idea of what...

Beware of False Teachers

I had an interesting dream in the early hours of this morning, it was quite vivid and I still remember much of it… The dream (from what I remember) started with some knowledge that Moses (and Abraham, although I don’t remember much of Abraham in the dream) was coming to visit the Church (no specific church.. just church). There was a great excitement about this and people were gathering together for the arrival. Once I arrived at the Church I noticed that most of the tables were occupied (tables in Church?) so I grabbed one from a stack that was at one of the walls. I ended up putting my table at the front (not sure of any relevance here re. tables). The leaders were familiar to me; someone who is a trusted teacher of the word, and some of the faces I saw were also familiar.. everyone seemed excited and was waiting with great expectation for the arrival of Moses. When the...

All in Adam Die, All in Christ Made Alive

I just listened [online] to a fab bible study session from Bishop Joseph Garlington from Covenant Church of Pittsburg. The main study was about baptism and how we are saved through water (you need to listen to the whole thing to get the gist of the message), but this post is regarding Bishop Josephs comments regarding how the New Testament translates the Greek word Sarx. The NIV translates this word as Sinful nature… however this is apparently a bad interpretation. (side note: the new version of the NIV 2011 now translates the Greek word Sarx as Flesh) The reference referred to was: Col 2:11 (NIV) In him you were also circumcised, in the putting off of the sinful nature, not with a circumcision done by the hands of men but with the circumcision done by Christ, The same verse in the Amplified bible reads: Col 2:11 (AMP) In Him also you were circumcised with a circumcision not made...

Jesus said: I Am Willing

While he was in one of the cities, there came a man full of leprosy. And when he saw Jesus, he fell on his face and begged him, “Lord, if you will, you can make me clean.” And He stretched out His hand and touched him, saying, “I am willing; be cleansed.” And immediately the leprosy left him. Luke 5:12-13 There are many people, including Christians who ask the question “does God heal today?”. People ask, because they don’t see the evidence of it or hear the stories. Others say healings are not for today, they were only for the time of the first disciples. (I’m sure there are many who would disagree with that). Whenever I think of Jesus saying to the leper “I Am willing”, compassion fills my heart because I recognise it was through Jesus love and compassion for the leper that he would heal him. Why would we think that Jesus would not...
