Do Not Forget

Anyone who listens to the word but does not do what it says is like a man who looks at his face in a mirror and, after looking at himself, goes away and immediately forgets what he looks like. But the man who looks intently into the perfect law that gives freedom, and continues to do this, not forgetting what he has heard, but doing it he will be blessed in what he does. James 1:23-25

That is so true, infact, I commented on that in a recent post but I guess at the time, I didn't realise I would come across this scripture some days later.

So yes, if we read the word, but don't take on board what it says, then we forget it. Wow! So basically, if we live our lives in the world and don't do as the Bible teaches, then we forget the ways of righteousness?

To be honest, I know I have also mentioned before about when you are far from God, sin doesn't seem as bad as it should. I probably should say, conviction is not as recognisable? Thats not a good place to be in. Well, being far from God in the first place is not a good place to be in, especially when you know what it is to be close to God.

I listened to a great sermon today about how God knows you.  It initially talks about Jesus in his humanity knew people, three points were mentioned:

  • How do you know me? John 1:48

  • He knew what was in a man John 2:24

  • He told me everything I ever did John 4:39)

You know when you fail, and when you know that you have failed, and when you want to get back on the path with God, yet you feel like such a failure - guess what - God knows. When you say to God, "I can't do it in my own strength" do you know what He says? "I know".

You know something, you can't be fake with God. You can't come before Him and try to hide who you are, you can't "impress" God and you can't surprise Him. Why? Because "Before I formed you in the womb, I knew you" Jeremiah 1:5.

We cannot hide who we are from God, we can't pretend we are doing better than we are, we can't pretend we are doing worse than we are. You can't be false - What A Relief! What a relief it is that we can be ourselves with God. What a relief we don't have to pretend, what a relief it is that we can just say it as it is - and if we fail, and if we mess up, we can confess that to God, ask forgiveness, God forgives and helps us put it right.

Without God, we fail, without Gods word, we fail - but in Christ we are blessed because we walk in obedience to God.

Thank God He knows us, Thank God He understands us, and Thank God He isn't stood behind us with a hammer above our heads waiting for us to fail. He loves us - haven't we got a FANTASTIC God!
