If Your Right Hand Causes You To Sin

And if your right hand causes you to sin, cut it off and throw it away. It is better for you to lose one part of your body than for your whole body to go into hell. Matthew 5v30

I have heard stories about this that people actually took this literally! Well, lets not go into detail hey.

Well, you know, in your walk with God, there are always things in our lives that need to be dealt with, and when God starts speaking to you about what you are doing in your life that need to change, then its time to listen and act.

Sometimes when God speaks to me, it is just out of the blue when I am not really thinking about anything. I could be working, driving, singing or whatever, and then God just says something. This is what happened the other day, God just said, if your right hand causes you to sin, cut it off. Well, me being me said, "What does that mean?" and almost instantly I knew what God was telling me and what it was referring to.

If I do things in my life that cause me to sin, stop doing them. I went, (well, not 100% through the woods yet) though a period when I was really struggling with my christian life, generally came out of circumstance, but I ended up drifting further and further away from God, and as previously mentioned in Living on the outside for Jesus sin doesn't seem as sinful (Do you catch my drift?) In other words, there are things that we could do that we would never do if we were in the right place with God. I started going out on a weekend with my mates, having a drink etc, to me, it was just an innocent night out with my pals, socializing, but gradually, it became a habit and I ended up in the circle of things that normally happen on a night out.

Well, since God has been drawing me back to him, and I have seen the light at the end of this wilderness period, God obviously wants to deal with things in my life, I suddenly didn't feel comfortable going out on a weekend, and if I did go, I would feel rubbish and feel like I couldn't draw near to God because I was unworthy. Now, don't get me wrong, I wasn't doing anything bad, but it was just in that kind of environment, the environment isn't pleasing to God, therefore, if I am drawing near to God, I can't feel comfortable in that environment, because I have His Holy Spirit in me. It was then that God said to me, "If your right hand causes you to sin, cut it off", so basically God was saying, stop going out and drinking on a weekend because I am in a sense sinning because you just get wrapped up in it all and shouldn't be doing it anyway.

It is better to let go of things like that and be right with God, because after all, although we are in the world, we are not off the world, we are just here for a time together, and folks, time really is running out, if you are a Christian, then you may have felt the urgency yourself that the time is coming, and very near for when God is going to pull the plug and call His people back and the sinners will be left outside in the darkness.

I can't tell you just how much in my spirit how stirred up I get just thinking about it, because I just know, that I know, that I KNOW we don't have long. It's true, we really don't.

So, I don't know about you, but I need to let go of these things of the world, and concentrate on getting myself to that place in Jesus where He can use me for the purpose that I am still here for. To make Him known to those that don't yet know him. This is my calling now folks, and it is more urgent now than I have ever felt it before.

  1. Excellent thoughts.
There are many times when something we are doing is in itself 'not' wrong.

But, because we are the ones doing it, it is (for us) sin...

Where (as they say) the 'Rubber meets the road', for me, is 1 Corinthians 10:31, "Therefore, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God."

  2. Thats an excellent scripture Unchained. It is a scripture that is guiding and inspiring and a great one to keep in your everyday life.

I remember I was once in a situation where I had to make a decision to either do what was right, or give in to temptation which would have been fun, because after all, if something is not appealing, then it isnt tempting either, and I was leaning either way and basically said to myself "What would Jesus do" and you know, as soon as I had said it, my attitude changed and instantly I did the right thing.

So, these things are a great guide for us. And to do all things for the glory of God is basically something to grasp hold of not only on occasions, but to be a part of your lifestyle.
